100lbs down!

It’s been a while. I’ve been too busy and/or lazy to write.

As of this morning I’m now 100lbs down. That’s just less than 46kg for the metric people. This year has been slow for weight loss. Just before Christmas, I was feeling bored with #YAYOG Bodyweight Training. I moved to #FitStar Personal Trainer which has a lot more cardio in the program. My weight loss slowed down so 2 weeks ago I switched back to YAYOG which updated their app. The weight loss sped up again, in fact 2.4kg in a week. I’m going to continue using YAYAG and do FitStar on the off days.

New Year’s Resolutions
Last year I made 3;

  • Lose 20kg more! I’m going to do it this time!
Green_OkI not only achieved it but I passed it. I ended the year with a 24.4kg loss.
  • Go to driving school and get my Japanese driver’s license.
Red_Not_OkUnfortunately I couldn’t go to driving school but with some effort Kumi has finally agreed to let me go.
  • Watch more than 82 first time watched movies.
Green_OkI destroyed this one. 121 movies last year. I don’t think I can beat that! My lists –> 2013 20142015

As for this year, I’ve made a few.

  • Lose at least 15kg more! This should put me at a normal weight.
  • Go to driving school and get my Japanese driver’s license. I should be starting soon.
  • Hike the Numazu Alps in one day. Last year I hiked the Numazu Alps but this year, I want to do it in reverse with a better time. A total of 7 mountains.
  • Do some kind of martial art. I said this in my About Me page and it was one off my original goals in losing weight. Well…DoGi
Green_OkI’ve Started taking Judo. I’m in my second month and I love it. I’m sore afterwards but it feels good. So far I’m just learning Ukemi(Falling). I belong to the Numazu Judokai(沼津柔道会). It’s a great bunch of Judokas with great teachers that all bring their own expertise. If you’re interest, let me know.
  • Run in the Numazu Kano River Half Marathon, at least 5Km. I started to train for it but recently the weather has been terrible so the training is on hold. The Marathon is in October so I have plenty of time.

I think that just about wraps things up.

One year of #YAYOG

RyanChangeOne year ago today, I started my You Are Your Own Gym workout program. From that day I’m currently 35kg down.

Let me start from the beginning. A friend from work, Marc, wrote several posts about his fitness and diet. He introduced YAYOG and Mark Lauren. Up to that time I had lost 5kg for the year trying different diets and walking. On October 7th, 2013, I tried my first workout.

Starting the 10 week program was difficult. Many exercises I couldn’t do because of my weight and balance (I have terrible balance). I modified those exercises so I could do them. I had sore muscles and at times it hurt to walk but I kept it up. I also adjusted my diet to count calories. That month alone I lost 4kg. By the New Year I had lost 7.8kg making the year total loss 13.8kg.

Overtime the sore muscles stopped and I began enjoying my nightly exercises. I ended up adding a short workout in the morning. The exercises that I modified due to my weight eventually I could do correctly. I still have a balance problem though! In March, I started hiking and I hike 2-6 times a month. I really enjoy hiking.

Another big thing for me is that I can run again. Since my early 20s (Even before the weight came) I’ve had bad knees. The other week, I had to run for the train. When I arrived at the station with a few minutes to spare I realized besides not being out of breathe, my knees didn’t hurt at all. That Sunday I decided to take a short jog to test myself. The short jog ended up being almost 40 minutes and my knees didn’t hurt at all. Since then I’ve decided to jog every Sunday (Weather permitting).

Now, I am 35kg down and 31cm off of my belt line since October 7th, 2013. I’m in better shape than I’ve been in 10+yrs. I still have some more weight to go but I’m confident I can do it. I’m currently in Round6 of the YAYOG 10 week program and added more fitness apps to my workouts.

I really owe a lot to Mark Lauren’s You Are Your Own Gym. The Program changed my life. Thank you!

Picture a Day Challenge

I was challenge by my friend Chris to a 5-Day Picture a Day Challenge. I figured that I’d repost the photo’s here. It was fun searching for good pictures.

Picture a Day Challenge: Day 1 of 5.
This is a picture of Mt. Kanuki from afar. This is my usual hiking mountain.

Picture a Day Challenge: Day 2 of 5.
The photo is a polar bear. The Polar bear is doing a backflip into the water. It was cool.

Picture a Day Challenge: Day 3 of 5.
Mt. Fuji viewed from Mt. Kanuki. Beautiful, Eh!

Picture a Day Challenge: Day 4 of 5.
A Japanese Fire Engine. It really makes North American Fire Engines look huge.

Picture a Day Challenge: Day 5 of 5.
Of course I would have to do a picture of Mia for the challenge. She’s wearing her #Anpanman towel after a shower.

Anyone reading this, I tag you to take the challenge!
